This is an interesting field to me. As far as business degrees go, most people seem to think you should major in accounting or finance, but for me personally, these fields are incredibly boring. However, I want a degree with a good foundation in hard skills, as opposed to the soft skills a person gets from a degree in marketing for example.

Operations management seems like a practical blend of technical skill and general business knowledge.

How is the market for graduates in operations management?

Also, I'm trying to figure out what to minor in. If I do operations management as my major, I'm thinking minoring in MIS would be great. Ideally I would've liked to minor in math or operations research, that definitely would put me over the top, but I just don't have the time now, I only have a year of school left. What do you guys think?

Looks promising, and interests me as well. I would like to get more into supply chain management, which seems to be similar if not the same thing. I have a ChemE degree and will be getting an MBA in an attempt to move towards this area. I also think Industrial Engineering could lead to this field as well. Check out that INFORMS site, they have some good information.

I believe a minor in MIS would be extremely useful. Much of what is done in OPs is technology driven, so it is very important that you at least have a high level understanding of technology.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think operations management is a little different than operations research. Its less math intensive I believe. I'm taking logistics, quality management, and operations management for competitive advantage next semester. I've only needed to take calculus, whereas operations research major takes much more math.

Operations research seems cool as hell though. Is it possible for a guy whose only taken calc and statistics to do OR in grad school you think? Or would I just be too far behind for it to be practical?

Yes, and formerly sherdog. LoL. To me this fight is a toss up. With Wandy training with team Couture, I think I'll pick him....everyone that has been training with Couture has been doing great. It's tough to say though. Someone is getting KTFO. Wandy will push the action to guarantee that.

Personally I think the matchup favors Chuck. If Chuck's timing is on, and Wanderlei hasn't gotten a lot more conservative, I think the iceman's gonna take this one.

What do you do anyway? Are you a college student? What are you studying?
