I am going to IU this fall, and they do not have an extensive, specific film production major. They do have Telecommunications, but I feel that it is more focused on tv broadcasting and business rather than artistic and creative. There has been a new initiativ for film at IU, but I am still unsure it is the right place for me to develop artistically. I’m wondering if I should learn production at telecom, whatever it may be or go into cinema studies and further my knowledge in film.
However, I do plan on transferring out of IU after my freshman year, since I am looking for a concentration in directing. Thanks.
Transfer schools in mind? Easy to make your college career extend beyond 4 years if you are not careful. The majority of your classes should be planned to easily transfer to your target schools. Going from state schools out of state or to private can be problematic. Your other issue is financial aid at next school, your best shot at institutional aid is in your freshman year.
Thanks! You pointed out some things that I didn’t even think about
Depends if you are more interested in TV and business or in stories and development of films.
If you want to be a director, then film studies and then transfer to a program that has film production. If you want to be a producer, then telecom.
What college is “IU?” It can’t be Indiana, because they do have a Cinema and Media Arts major. Transferring out after your freshman year? Don’t worry about a major then. Take gen ed class that will transfer wherever you go. Boring, I know. If you are interested in film production/directing, take a photography class.
