Should I mention a not high AIME score and AMC score on the application?

I barely made AIME this year with a AMC score of 88.5
And in AIME, I only scored 5.
Should I mention this two score on my application? I think they are pretty low and may hurt my chances.
However, I mentioned I qualified the AIME on the honor section of my commonapp.
So if I don't write the AIME score, will AO think I am cheating?

Also should I mention a 106 on AMC?

Nah the fact that u got a low AIME won’t hurt u. U qualified for AIME, thats a good accomplishment. btw AIME section is optional so u can either report it or don’t

so do you think I should put up such a score or not?
thanks~

Who, other than the warped perspective of the people on AoPS, actually thinks a 5 is a low score?! You should absolutely report your scores: a 5 on the AIME is an excellent score, and will actually help your chances, not hurt them. When I took the AIME, the median score was a 3, and the average was ~2.8.

I’m amazed that everyone seems to think that having a score that doesn’t qualify you for USAMO is somehow “bad”.

I agree; a score of 5 on the AIME is definitely notable.

i think a 5 on the AIME is something like the 90th or 95th percentile of all AIME test takers? And AIME test takers are like the top 5% of all AMC test takers…so yes, definitely mention the 5

I have always been sick the day of AMC tests so I’ve scored low…never qualified for AIME…

I’ve just never done well enough on an AMC to make AIME. ahahaha.

One reason why I switched away from wanting to become an applied mathematician like Charlie Eppes to an engineer!

5’s are good, though 9’s in 8th grade are better. However a 5 is definitely pretty good.

I’d be fine with USAJMO if I had ever gotten a chance for it.
