Amidst this current political environment, I am starting to have second-thoughts about mentioning that I am Muslim. I don’t want my application to be rejected due to my religion, even tho AOs might mention other reasons. I wrote a great essay about involvement in my Muslim community, and my English teacher loved it. I have a few, strong (leadership) ECs that are associated with my religion, but my app is divided between religion and science. I can change my essay to a solid backup topic, but I am currently unsure. What do you think?
Most colleges have tons of Muslim students – for decades and decades. Unless you’re applying to some very distinctly “out there” colleges, this is of no concern.
@T26E4 Alright
That is perfectly fine. As noted above, most colleges have plenty of Muslim students. And if there is one college that by some fluke doesn’t want you because of that essay then you probably don’t want to go there anyway!
@happy1 Appreciate it. I am just going to keep it on there.
I think being a Muslim is an advanatge at the moment, even if it is a subconscious one. So many colleges are all about being inclusive and in the current political climate, I think being actively involved in your community and religion is a good thing. Go for it.
From what you’ve said, it seems like being Muslim is a big part of your identity. This is a good thing! Colleges want to see things that are important to you on your college app; they typically do not care about what your religion is (unless you’re talking about a very religious school).
