Should I mention my AMC score on my application?

Hello, I was thinking of applying to top science/engineering schools in the country

I'm applying to MIT, Caltech, Stanford... you get the idea

So I got a 79 on my AMC, which I know is not a very good score

On the ohter hand I got 800 on my mathII and chem SAT subject tests

I was thinking that writing my AMC score on my application might give a bad impresssion,

and that just writing the SAT subject scores (i'll be taking physics too) would be better

since it will be very much lower than the average applicants to schools I'll be applying

I heard that MIT has a special space on the application for AMC scores, but its not mandatory, right?

Do you think I should just mention the score on my app or not?

You definitely could. I got 87 on my AMC12 test but it was an unusually hard test. The cut off for AIME on that test for 89 instead of the usual 100. I have lots of other maths awards so I’m not that worried.

Go ahead. It’s not going to hurt you.

the fact that you were nominated to take it says a lot about you; put it on.

Did you get any awards such as school winner or certificate of achievement? If so, I would mention those instead of your score. If not, still go ahead and mention your score.

i know i got the second highest score in school (small school tho)

i think that is recognized as a distinction, but i didnt get a certificate or whatever

can i mention that, but not mention my specific score?

even for schools like MIT which has a specific space for AMC score?

I think you should mention the score and the fact that you placed in second. It couldn’t hurt, especially since you already have high SAT II scores.

some schools have places where you can write in your AMC/AIME/USAMO scores
79 is very low for an amc score, even for amc 12
if you can take it again, then try for a higher score
but i would still put it on your app

^ Depends on which test he took. For AMC12A in 2010, he was only 10 points off AIME.

For a top college like MIT, leave off anything quantative that is not stellar.

For less competitive colleges, go ahead and mention it.

Probably half or more of every class at MIT will have an 800 mathll score. many more will be very close.

o
it’s a shame the mathII test is a joke

Jebar - but most every year the cutoff score is around 100. How will admissions officers think? Possibly a bit lower than usual maybe… If you didn’t make AIME, I wouldn’t advise telling them your AMC score
