Should I mention this on my transfer app?

I cheated in lab class at my college on an exam because I took out my notes like an idiot. It's something I will regret my whole life. I received a zero on the exam, but passed and got two semester probation, which is not on my transcript. I think it was bad influence from friends but I'm responsible for my own actions. I was planning on transferring before this incident and I don't know whether I should waste my money getting rejected because of this incident. Should I start the fall semester getting high grades, proving that this was an isolated incident which it was, and then apply writing an essay on the app why i've truly regretted this? I had a high gpa have worked so hard in my classes just to wreck my whole future with an elective class. The college is competitive and I don't think they'll accept a cheater because they'll prob. think I cheated my way through everything which isn't case. have thought about suicide but I don't want to hurt my parents.

You need to stay where you are until the probation ends. In order to transfer, you will need to provide a letter from your current college/university indicating that you are “in good standing”, and you won’t get that letter until your probation is over. People do dumb things, and the administration at your college knows it. When your probation is over, you will be able to determine whether or not you want to transfer anywhere, and you will be in a much better position to seek advice as to how to present this incident (if you indeed need to mention it) in future transfer and grad school applications.

It doesn’t affect my standing. I’m in good standing. but I’m applying to transfer for fall 2012. and my disciplinary probation ends spring 2012.

Sit down with your advisor once you get back to school this fall, and have a heart-to-heart about the transfer applications. He/she should have good ideas for you.

Good luck!
