Should I minor in Computer Engineering as a Comp Sci Major?

Currently, I’m a freshman majoring in Computer Science and am wondering if minoring in Computer Engineering is a good idea or not. I do enjoy and find both fields interesting however I was always more interested in the hardware aspect of computers, but I ended up choosing CS over CE because I felt that there were better job opportunities and that it would be slightly easier. However, after more research, I found out that a lot of courses I take for CS (mostly math & physics) coincide with the requirements/prerequisites for CE. And then the idea of doing CE as a minor occurred to me, but I’m not sure if that would be too much of a workload. The only major hurdle I see is that I would have to take Calc 3, but I only have to complete 15 major/core units to minor in CE which I feel wouldn’t be too much and the classes actually seem interesting to me. Thoughts or suggestions?

I think you answered your own question - feel wouldn’t be too much and the classes actually seem interesting to me.

You’re only a freshman. Why not major in CE. If you like hardware better, do you want to be pounding out code day in and day out all career?

Talk this out with your advisor and professors. They are awesome at helping to guide you. There might be aspects of both that you don’t really know about yet. Most students really don’t understand their chosen fields to like Junior year. Taking the lead now can be helpful. Ask lots of questions. They are there to help.
