So i am planning to go to temple university and majoring in pre-pharmacy. I was wondering if i should either minor in spanish or information technology as well to get an extra edge in applying to jobs? I have no experience in either spanish or information tevhnology. Is this a good idea? Or will this be too much work?
If you were to do pharmacy, then Spanish would be much helpful than information technology.
Otherwise, I would just stay in computer science and don’t look back to pharmacy. If you graduate from computer science, the job market is much better, pay is as good if not better than pharmacy, and you do not need to take out $200k+ in loans and spend an additional 4 years in school only to risk not being able to be unemployed.
Information technology is very different from computer science. They’re not the same thing.
If you are sticking with pharmacy, minor in Spanish. If you ensure you have a solid grasp of the language, maybe study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country for a semester, and really are able to demonstrate your Spanish skills, that will be a big asset in the job marketplace later on.
If you can, take a class in each. Then you can assess for yourself if you want to minor in either of them. You can get job advice all you want, but it really comes down to if you love the classes, it’ll help you a lot more than if you’re miserable in them.
…and be aware that neither is going to make much of a difference in getting a job. Speaking Spanish might, but you would be surprised how little attention employers pay to things like minors. As @Scrippsie said, take classes, see how you get on, choose what works for you.
