I’m majoring in Computer Science. I’ve done Spanish for 5+ years now, and I’m currently in AP Spanish Language and Culture. Is a Spanish minor worth it, especially if I take the AP exam and get a 5? Will it cost significantly more for me to pursue a minor in Spanish?
According to The College Board website, it’s equivalent to 4 semesters of college Spanish.
I’m confused…are you already in college? You say you are a cs major, but also in AP Spanish…
If you do end up doing a Spanish minor, most schools with a legit program will have those 4 semesters of Spanish as the prereq to the minor, meaning that you could test out of the preliminary language requirements but still need 5-6 Spanish classes. But this, of course, varies by school and program. It shouldn’t cost more, unless you are paying per credit part time or something, as you can use your electives to take the extra courses.
@AwesomeAxolotl No, I’m in high school.
If you get a 5 in an AP exam it means you don’t have to take the introduction course 101 and 102. It also depends on what college you’re attending and see what a 5 on the ap will credit you. Do you want to minor in Spanish? I’m majoring in biology with a double minor in chemistry and math. My reasoning for double majoring is because as a transfer student I recently changed majors this semester and I won’t have enough credits to reach 12 (full time). I also want to have it as a backup because I’m interested in meteorology and pharmaceutical science for grad school. Having two minors will allow me to have more options. If I’m not interested in pharmaceutical science then I would already have the math requirements for grad school in meteorology.
Maybe a math minor would be more beneficial for you.
Wait until you get to college to decide. The requirements for a minor will vary from college to college as will the general education requirements. Don’t get too far ahead of yourself.
