Should I move out?

That’s what I thought, Mike. You’re in-state for NJ. Are you having trouble affording the community college, or are you worried about paying for a 4-year school?

Trouble comes affording community college honestly.

Id love to transfer to a four year but if I could barely get aid for community College , why would I get more for a 4 year? Am I wrong?

You would get the same federal aid (potentially a Pell grant and a loan) but that’s generally it. Talk to your GC about potential scholarships at in-state schools for transfer students. They may know of some.

Sorry about the residency discussion but your initial post said you were from NY. We are very sensitive on this forum to in-state and out-of-state costs so location and residency are very important.

You will have more expenses if you move out…rent, utilities, etc. and you won’t likely get a nickel more of financial aid. You will still need to include your parents on your financial aid application forms.

Can you commute to a state school? If you qualify for full Pell, that’s about $5000. Juniors can borrow $6500 (federal student loan). In NY, that’s enough to commute to a 4-year school. Does NJ have any schools in that price range? If not, can you work and save up enough to make up the difference?

No problem. Just used NY as an introduction that’s all. I’ll go and talk to the office at my school this week.
@ErinsDad‌ .

Good, because the only reason i was going to move out was cause i thought it would help for school. I didn’t want to be alone… Thanks for the info before i made a dumb move! @thumper1 .

I COULD actually travel to a state school. And, honeslty would love to. I am going to see what the tuition is and possibly take this route… @austinmshauri

I think that’s a great plan, @Mikespnu. Avoiding debt is a good thing. :slight_smile:
