Should I not do this?

I want to send a brief email to an Admission Director who has been very helpful during my application process. I just wanted to thank him for his help, and say that I hope he had a good Thanksgiving. Will I be seen as annoying? Will he think I'm just trying to get brownie points? Because in all honesty, I'm not, and if that's the impression I'll get, then I'd rather not send it all.

If he really was helpful to you (say more than to the usual applicant) then sure, it is a polite thing to do. But I’d skip the Thanksgiving (or any other personal) mention. That sounds a bit creepy and overly familiar.
