so here’s the sitch: it looks like my dad might have cancer but it hasn’t been 100% confirmed yet and will probably be at least a couple weeks before we know anything for sure. should i notify colleges of this since it may affect how much my parents can pay/how i’ll pay my tuition? any advice/help would be much appreciated:)
I don’t know the answer to your question but I will say a prayer that you never have to make that call. Good luck.
Sorry to hear that. Are you planning a gap year?
I would wait until you have your FA package in hand and maybe by then there will be more info on his status and possible impact on earnings. You can go back and request a financial aid review based on the additional information you have at that time. I’d plan on doing it the first week of April if you can. If the reviews aren’t done by May 1, you can request an extension on that May 1 decision date (although schools don’t like to grant it, and they will usually only give a short time of extension).
To answer your question: personally, if I was in your position, I would wait until there is a confirmed diagnosis before notifying any colleges and asking for professional judgment on FA awards.
I grew with @BelknapPoint. Wait until you have confirmed information.
wait until you have a Dx and your dad knows how this will affect his job/income. It may end up having little effect on his job or income. His job may pay while he gets treatment, or his treatment may be a quick one.
I know someone whose cancer treatment was a “one and done” removal…no chemo, no radiation, and back doing normal things a few days later…with no reoccurance.
I pray that your dad does not have cancer, but if he does, I hope it’s quickly and easily treatable.
