Should I only take 2 years of world language in high school?

I've heard from almost everyone that colleges are looking for atleast 3 years of world language. So far, I'm in my second year of French. I have a B, so next year I won't be able to take honors French or AP French. Also, I will be stuck with a very hard teacher with a very low class average. I've already had him, and no matter how hard I try I can't manage to get an A in his class. If I take French next year I'll probably get a B again.

Because of this, replacing French with something like AP Chemistry in my schedule is much more appealing to me than taking regular French. Completely dropping French for AP courses would mean that I've only taken 2 years of French in my high school career. I'm wondering, would taking AP Chemistry instead of French improve or weaken my chances of getting into a good college?

More information: Currently in 10th grade. I have no interest in using French in the future and I want to go to Carnegie Mellon.

I am wondering about this too. Sorry this isn’t an answer to your question.

It’s no biggie…go take the chem class

It really depends. What are you going to major in and how many years of foreign language does your college choice require?

I’m majoring in computer science. My college of choice only requires 2 years, however there is no guarantee I will be accepted into that college.

yeah if youre into CS then go ahead and take chem nvm :)

Generally, it is recommended to take three.

2 is the minimum. I’d recommend 3 but since that seems out of the question–it won’t be a big deal.

I’m doing only 2 also. I think it should be fine as long as you can justify why you only took 2 years.

Bump
