Should I or should I not live on campus?

I am an incoming freshman for the 2013 fall semester, and I need to decide whether or not I am living on campus by May 1 (the sooner, the better, since many of the better housing locations are being taken up as I speak).

If I choose to live off campus, then I will stay at home with my parents. Since my brother goes to Tech as well, we can commute together; the commute is slightly more than 20 minutes.

If I choose to live on campus, then I will need to add a couple thousand dollars to my student loans.

Should I or should I not live on campus?

I think living on campus would be nice for the social aspect, but I don’t think it would be worth it if you have to borrow money to do it if you free rent 20 minutes away. I think a good compromise would be to maybe try living at home for the first two years, and then live on campus.

^Actually I would recommend the opposite. My son will be a freshman at GT in the fall.He could commute either by himself or with my husband who works downtown. However we have decided to have him live on campus. I think living on campus at least for the first year would help you make more friends and study buddies. Once you have been on a campus a year or two then you could live at home. I wouldn’t discount the social aspect. College isn’t just about going to class.
