Should I pick Georgia or SMU?

I have gotten into both schools and I'm torn between the two. I will go into a business program wherever I go, so I was wondering If one of you were in my position, which would you choose?

I have heard that kids at SMU chose SMU because they didnt get into schools like Texas and UGA, but I know it has a good business program, as does Georgia.

I want to have an overall great experience in college, but also a quality education.

YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE!!!

Wow, tough choice, but very different schools. I have some knowledge of both, as I earned a graduate degree at UGA, and one of my son’s has SMU at the top of his list and we just visited SMU before Thanksgiving. Both business schools are highly regarded, but not elite, per se. And both have competitive admission into the business school (you must do well your first year or two to be admitted into the major). I don’t think that kids who go to SMU go to SMU because they couldn’t get into UGA – SMU has an equal or slightly lower acceptance rate, and I doubt there is very much overlap in those who apply, in light of the geographic separation between the schools. I think your decision really turns on the question of which “type” of school do you want to attend. Stating the obvious, SMU is a school with about 6,500 undergrads, versus about 25,000 undergrads at UGA. Athens is a great college town, but it is different than being in a big metro area like Dallas. SMU is known to have a very strong alumni network, particularly in Dallas. They have over 36,000 alumni living in the Dallas area, and SMU says it doesn’t even have enough students to fill all the intern opportunities that come up. I don’t get the sense that UGA has the same type of network in Atlanta. We were very impressed with the SMU campus, but UGA is nice as well. Both schools have strong Greek systems, if that’s your thing, though UGA’s may be a bit more pronounced simply due to its size and the sheer number of fraternities and sororities. Frankly, I get the sense that the hardest thing about UGA is getting admitted (due to the Hope scholarship in Georgia, UGA admissions has gotten very competitive over the past 10 years). If you are not in the Honors Program at UGA, the educational experience can be pretty mixed – many do not feel it is that great and a lot of the classes can be large and taught by TAs. SMU, given its size, would be smaller classes and a more intimate experience. If you have some specific questions, I’ll be happy to try to address them.

Do you mind me asking how you found out you were accepted to SMU?
I applied EA as well. I heard you hear back by December 15th. Did you already get the acceptance in the mail or online? Please let me know. I am really anxious to hear back from them!
PS
PICK SMU OVER UGA. Not even a question.

Why do feel that u need to choose now?

Do you need to compare aid packages

Wow cool :)If i were you, I would choose UGA . You better consider where u want to study.Singapore is sorta crowded.SMU is a good university, though. My mom forced me to apply for SMU but i won’t 'cause i don’t like the country =] If you don’t mind, leave some visitor msg on how u got into UGA.

hey everyone thanks for your replies. I technically havent found out whether or not i have gotten into SMU but I fairly positive that I will. Im torn between the two and i am trying to begin the process of weighing the pros and cons of each. No, I wont be comparing aid packages.

@ kikocupcake, I think the OP is referring to Southern Methodist rather than Singapore Management University.

Where do you want to work after college?

As far as national reputation goes, they feel the same to me… if I had to pick one as better, it would be SMU. However, are sports important to you? UGA rocks in that regard.

Let me look up the USNWR rankings… OK UGA is #56. and SMU is #56… go figure. I guess they’re the same in terms of prestige.
