Should I play soccer or cross country?

I have played soccer up until Junior year (I'm going to be a senior) and was on JV Junior year. I am not sure if I want to play senior year because I am getting tired of the sport, the coach doesn't really know me, I don't like any of the kids and I will be sitting the whole year. I will do cross country if I don't do soccer but I am worried that it will affect my college chances. Will it matter if I do CC instead? Am I allowed to put soccer down even if I don't play as long as I apply to my colleges before tryouts start?

One reason colleges like to see activities is because they want students to come and contribute to the social environment, not just to the classroom. If you don’t enjoy soccer and don’t intend to keep playing in college, I see little reason to continue, as it seems you are just wasting time that could be better spent elsewhere. As to whether you should do CC, I would do it if you have friends on them team and/or think you’d enjoy it.

I agree and I will do one or the other this year. But do you think it will affect admission chances if I have soccer Frosh-Jr year and CC Senior year? If I send in my apps before I have tryouts for soccer, I can put down soccer and still do CC right?

I’m not sure how impressive JV Soccer is going to be to AdComs, regardless of whether or not you did it senior year. Sure, you could send in your application with soccer on it, as long as you “intended” to continue it, but I don’t think it’s a huge deal.

If you’re really worried, just explain it in your app. I’m pretty sure there’s a section to give them any other information they should consider, so just put it there.
