So I sent in everything to UT except my transcript. The reason I’m thinking about postponing sending my transcript is because my class rank is absolute TRASH - top 10.9% because of terrible freshman grades and I’m applying to the hyper-competitive McCombs. I go to a school well-known for it’s intense competition. ( We sent 13 to Ivies/Duke/MIT/West Point/ect last year )
My second choice is liberal arts econ but I would be extremely unhappy if I ended up with the liberal arts school.
I have decent test scores - ( 32 ACT - 35 Math/33 English ) - ( 2210 SAT - 770 Math/740 Reading ). EC’s and ESPECIALLY my essays are very strong. The major things against me are my race and my garbage class rank. I’m not applying to any Honors programs bc being asian + my class rank = no shot.
Thing is, I’m doing pretty well in my senior classes right now. AP Lit and Calculus is killing EVERYONE’S grade but I have maintained a 97+ in both and I would be shocked if I didn’t move up to the top 7-8% because everyone is doing so poorly.
My quarter transcript should update at around November 15th meaning that I would be cutting it PRETTY close to the deadline… Should I wait until my transcript updates THEN finish my application? Or should I just send my junior year transcript and be done with it? Is there a disadvantage to applying later?
Does your school re-rank at quarter? Our school doesn’t. Classes show as in progress with no grade before the end of the semester and ranks are only done at semester end.
Can you get a printed official copy to upload before December 1 or can your school guarantee they will get it there in time?
I would send everything in except for the transcript if you go with the apply later approach.
@RamenUniversity Go ahead and submit your current transcript now. If it improves after the next grading period, send an updated transcript. UT will use the second one if it’s better - as long as they receive it by the deadline. (This is exactly what happened with my daughter so I’m certain they will use the better transcript sent later. She submitted the first transcript so they would have it just in case her class rank went down, not up.)
UT’s published deadline to apply is Dec. 1, but Admissions will accept the back-up documentation (including transcripts) for a while after that date. Their final deadline may be Dec. 10 or 15, and it’s probably not published anywhere. So submit your improved transcript as soon as possible after you know it’s better. You can track items received in MyStatus.
Also if you’re interested in an Honors program at UT, I encourage you to apply. You might get in, but you won’t know if you don’t apply.
Finally, choose your second choice major carefully because you might get it. You said you’ll be unhappy if you get accepted into Liberal Arts. Can you choose a back-up major in McCombs that you would be happy with?
Good luck and Hook 'em Horns!
Have more confidence in yourself. Top 10.9% is not “TRASH” or “garbage.”
