Should I pursue 3/2 programs or 4 yr Universities?

I have a 4.3/5 gpa, not sure about UW, 34 Act 800 math 2 710 physics

I think im going to try my best to go to USC
I want to go to a liberals arts as well, but there arent many in socal with engjneering programs. Id prefer not going to large public schools, UCLA being the exception.

USC, cal poly slo and pomona, and stanford are the places im really going for right now.

I think 3/2 is kinda risky for me, thanks for the help!!

SLO and Pomona would be very good options. Good luck.

Yeah, Im doing mostly 4yr, 3/2 wont give me that much benefit as compared to private universities

I thin it is a good idea that you are not pursuing the 3/2 option. At Illinois Tech, we have a bunch of 3/2 programs with LACs but very few students ever make it through. The 2+3 option for community colleges is much more common.

Having seen many applicants to Illinois Tech over the years, my guess is that you would have no problem being admitted with some kind of merit aid.

Good luck!

I’m not a big fan of the 3/2 for many of the reasons above that I don’t feel that I need to repeat. However, you can still cut your schooling time down to 5 years and get a masters at quite a few schools (including Purdue). Purdue and a wide variety of other schools have a combined 5 year MS/BS program with similar requirements to the 3/2, however you have a quality engineering degree to fall back on if you are unable to complete the requirements.

i mean, for a master’s degree, 5 and 6 years aren’t that different for me. I thought that 3/2 would be more efficient, but in the long run, including the risk taken, one year isn’t worth it.

I’m applying to:

Stanford
Cornell
Cmu
Johns Hopkins
Vanderbilt
Wustl
USC
URochester
Trinity College
Rice
Northeastern

All are private engineering schools. Thanks @palax796 @xraymancs @juillet @LakeWashington

Do you have a good merit safety? I’m not sure I see one on there.

merit? you mean in terms of admissions (difficulty of schools)?
I applied to all Ucs and 3 cal states. If im being too proud doing too few safety schools, maybe I should cut Cornell and Stanford.

That’s fine. I saw some UCs but the top UCs are very tough to get into. I didn’t see Cal States listed anywhere.

I did cal poly slo and csu pomona. and cal state long beach. to be honest, it wont kill me to go to csulb for engineering, but I think I can do better.

Other publics are too expensive. All the privates I listed are very cheap for me.

Thanks! @“Erin’s Dad”

I know this post is old. Just wanted to ask one question.

Why is the 3/2 not a good idea? Im planning to do one now at Occidental that connects to Caltech/Columbia. Is there a loophole hidden I do not know about? I know I did not plan to do so when this thread was used, but I changed my mind haha.

Thank You.

Read carefully on admission to the “2” school and financial aid there.

@ucbalumnus thanks! I just did!

Im kinda scared of this thread now. I was really looking forward to attending Occidental and trying to do 3/2 with Caltech, but Im not so sure. I have other options, such as Cal Poly SLO, UCI, UCSD, but idk what to do. the SIR is due in days. :frowning:
