I finished creating my resume and the last thing I need to put is my gpa.
I just transferred out of community college and my gpa fell to 2.65-2.7.
It is my first semester at State now and do not have a gpa; however, I am doing well in my classes (possibly end up with 3.5-3.7). I am applying for internships and the job postings require a 3.0 gpa. Will putting my 2.65 gpa hurt my chances?
You could try leaving it off – for engineering I’ve heard that anything under 3.0 isn’t worth putting on your resume – but then the real problem becomes that 3.0 requirement. You can’t lie about it. Is the requirement a hard limit or a general guideline? If the former, you’d still be out of the running as soon as they asked for your GPA, even if you made it to the interview stage.
For engineering, they will ask. Is this for the summer?
I wouldn’t put it on my resume, but they will definitely ask and you could say that your current grades aren’t in and that you want to be accurate. I don’t know if that would work.
If your application is done online, and the question asks you to put in the GPA, anything below a 3.0 will be filtered by the program.
Forgot to mention – depending on where you go, it may be as few as one or as many as five or six weeks into the semester. That’s hardly enough time to predict such a drastic change in grades…
I am a business major and this is for a summer internship. Recruiters are coming next week, so I will not have my first semester gpa.
