should I put down my AP score of 3?

I took 3 AP tests as a junior:
5 on AP Lang+Comp
4 on APUSH
3 on chem

I'm applying to pretty competitive schools, and my GPA/ACT are both pretty good.

Should I put the 3 on AP chem on the common app? Or just not include it? A 3 correlates to being "qualified" in college, but I'm still not sure if that will look bad if I'm applying to top notch colleges like Notre Dame.

I want to go to medical school, and I got a C+ in my AP Chem class. The C+/AP score of 3 will definitely be the only blemish on my application. I hate using it as an excuse, but there were special circumstances during the 1st semester of my junior year (when I took AP chem) that affected my grades (which I will need to put on commonapp, not sure where though). Will this significantly hurt my chances of getting into colleges like ND and eventually med school?

Thanks again for your input

The college’s specific website will often tell you which AP scores correlate to which college credit. So you should probably take a look and search for such a page.

If there isn’t one, then I would not report the score. In very many cases, a 3 will not get you credit. And Chem being a science, which often is simply a 4 or 5 to get credit, will probably not net you credit with a 3. But, I could be wrong.

Rather, take the opportunity to explain why you got the C+ on your application.

Just my opinion but I would report the 3 b/c I think it would look a little strange to some colleges if you took AP Chem. but didn’t report the score-they may just automatically assume you got a 2 or 1. Also, there is an “additional info.” section on CommonApp where you can report special circumstances.

I also think an unreported score will be assumed to be a 1 or a 2. Better to report a 3.

In any case, AP scores to do factor into admissions much at all.

If you are going to go premed, you will want to take the basic Chem courses at college and not skip right to the 200 level - so that Chem AP credit might not be worth accepting.
