I’m pretty sure I want to do aerospace engineering at CU Boulder but I’m not quite sure, so should I put open option engineering. Basically I want to know the difference of putting open option engineering vs aerospace engineering so like do you take different classes freshmen year if I chose aerospace vs open option. Also if I did get accepted into CU Boulder and decided to go there would I have to confirm my major when I accepted, and have the chance to change it then, or would I already get a schedule and stuff starting the school year and would be a process.
Aerospace is the most mathematically intensive major in College of Engineering, aside from Applied Math
and Engineering Physics. So think about your math skills when you are selecting a major. Do you get all As in math and enjoy calculus? If you are not sure, you can apply open option and explore, but it will not matter much
as if you get into the College of Engineering, you are free to change majors or even change to the College of Arts and Sciences in physics or math if you wish.
If you do not get into the College of Engineering, you can still work your way in, from the College of Arts and Sciences, by taking engineering math classes, and getting As at CU Boulder.
It does not hurt you to declare a major within the college of engineering, but most of the freshman physics and math requirements are the same for any engineering major, including Applied Mathematics.
Environmental and Civil Engineering are the least mathematical of the CU Boulder engineering majors, but
still require a math sequence for freshman year.
