Should I Put These ECs?

<p>My 4 major ECs, which I am definitely putting on my app, are:</p>

<p>Mock Trial Lawyer
GSA President
Yearbook Editor in Chief
Newspaper Editor in Chief</p>

<p>There are a few other smaller things that I've partaken in that I am not sure whether to put. These include:</p>

<p>MUN member
Member of Jazz Band and Pep Band, but only for 9th and 10th grade
Member of an out of school Violin chamber music quartet, but for 9th, 10th, and 11th (not 12th) grade
Pres of Chess Club (this seems like a silly EC to me, not really sure if I should list it)</p>

<p>I suppose I'm asking whether its better to go for breadth or depth.</p>

<p>go for depth. don’t distract the adcoms from your good ECs with the stuff that is less important. Your EIC positions are a big deal and impressive.</p>

<p>MUN member- Generally, club memberships without leadership positions (or, in your case, awards) aren’t worth putting down.</p>

<p>Member of Jazz Band and Pep Band- Was this important to you? How many hours a week were you involved in this?</p>

<p>Member of an out of school violin chamber music quartet- Absolutely. Continuing your music outside of school is impressive.</p>

<p>Pres of Chess Club- How many hours a week did this take you? If not many, and you weren’t a huge presence on campus, I’d leave this off.</p>

<p>I disagree with twak21. I think a good balance should be fine, don’t make it seem visually empty (common app) [eg: fill in half the spaces, thats more or less what i’m doing]. Just put the stuff that was most imp TO YOU I would say. Also I would suggest you check the hidden ECs thread. GL, i’m applying that season too :D</p>
