I’m about to be a junior and am currently enrolled in marching band and concert band. I’m not in any leadership positions in band. I’ve been doing band since 4th grade but I’m not interested in pursuing music after high school. I want to make room for more stem based classes since i plan on majoring in chemistry or biochemistry to become a forensic scientist. I don’t have many friends in band and my best friends are not in band, the few friends i do have in band are graduating im 2019 so I’m also afraid of being a loner my senior year. I also plan on getting a job this summer and doing volunteer work through this school year and next school year. I would also like to get an internship next year. I plan on doing dive through senior year for extracurriculars. I’ve maintained mostly a’s so far and have had 2 ap classes and 4 honors classes along with some accelerated. I plan on taking 3 or 4 aps next year and i want to take more science classes senior year which is why I am considering quitting band. Also if youve read all the way through here you’re a real one lol. Any advice helps:)
Why not quit now? D17 quit band before junior year and she started to be able to enjoy her summer and do more stuff. She also stopped concert band so that she can take more AP classes. Quitting band didn’t hurt her in admission. As long as you have something to replace it with or your academics will improve, it is a good thing.
With Band I think about:
- Making music
- Making friends
- Leadership opportunities
You don’t seem to care about the music issue, you don’t have friends in band as a senior, …but who knows about leadership…I bet you know how you stack up against the other kids in your instrument in your grade.
I would see no issue with quitting for senior year.
I’m about to be a junior and so far my ec’s have consisted of marching and concert band, dive, and a self-taught language( if that even counts). There were a lot of issues at home during my freshman and sophomore years, and now things are starting to get better. I quit band because of the social environment, I had a couple of close friends who I’m thankful for, but the rest of the people who I thought were my friends turned out to be fake, I didn’t want to be around them anymore, I was never apart of the band family, that is one of the most important features of band. My passion is still in music and I want to enter competitions as a flute soloist. I’ve discovered other passions I have, and I’m going to start a club and a Science Olympiad team and staryed taking online courses related to my passions. I’m afraid that by doing all this junior year it will only look like I’m doing it just to put stuff on my college applications. I genuinely want to pursue these things but my number one fear is that it will look like I finally started to think about college during junior year and I solely did these things for the college apps. I don’t know what to do so any advice helps. Thanks.
