Should I reapply to Prep Schools for 10th grade?

NMH has an outstanding vocal music program. The select women’s ensemble and the select coed ensemble were invited to sing at the White House in December. Both groups perform a broad repertoire as does the large chorus. I also heard a comment this year that Hogappella, the boys a cappella group, shone at St. Mark’s Wick choral festival.

NMH also has a financial aid budget of around 7 million per year, about the same as SPS, which has a significantly larger endowment. I’d say NMH is extremely generous with financial aid.

Depending on where your family lives in CT, you may actually be closer to schools in MA, RI or NY than some schools within CT. Maybe you and your parents can agree on a maximum acceptable driving time for your school list. Then you can simply produce Google Maps driving directions to get approval. :)

^^ you can’t really compare NMH’s FA budget with SPS’, considering NMH has a significantly larger student population… NMH’s FA isn’t known to be particularly generous, but i’m sure if they really wanted you they would make it happen.

I disagree with this. My extremely qualified friend got WLed there and he applied for FA. He knows he was WLed b/c of FA. I’ve heard that NMH is also selling some buildings to “make ends meet.” Doesn’t exactly sound like they’re on top of their finances.

Does anybody know anything about Peddie and Blair?

What do you want to know about Peddie?

Peddie and Blair are both very good schools. I like Blair just a bit more, just a feeling during our visits. Another school to consider in your home state of Ct. is Pomfret.

If you’d like to know about Peddie in general, I strongly suggest applying here. It has a better reputation than Blair, it seems. Other than that, I can only wait for you to respond.

Peddie and Blair are both great schools, and are definitely on the same level (they are rivals after all!).

I visited Blair and LOVED it! Everyone was so warm and welcoming, and the community was extremely tight-knit. The students seemed to all love being there, and the classes I visited were very interesting. It is an amazing school, and I would highly suggest visiting it.

I visited Peddie twice, and ultimately decided not to apply. The interviewer and my tour guide were kind of rude and many of the students seemed disengaged. It does have some nice facilities, such as the athletics building. Just not my cup of tea.

You really can’t go wrong with either, it is just about fit.

I am happy to answer questions about Blair. My son was there for 4 happy years and grew in wonderful ways . It is a warm and welcoming community with 80% b oarding. Feel free to ask questions here or send me a pm. It is closer to CT than you might think. You cross the Tappan Zee bridge rather than the GW.

All I can say in Peddie’s defense is that everyone has a different opinion of each school and there are plenty of people that have not experienced the rudeness that Sally has described. I have encountered no such behavior and nothing but kindness from the faculty and students.

laughalittle, Peddie does not need defending against from anybody! Like I said, that was just my experience on two days of a whole year, and I certainly do not believe this is the norm. It was just not a fit. Peddie is an excellent school with a great reputation, which is why I looked into it in the first place. I was simply sharing my take on the school. It is the perfect school for someone, just not me.

And obviously there are plenty of kind and wonderful people at Peddie; most are I’m sure. But that was my REAL experience, and I am just sharing with someone who wanted more information.

I’m sorry for sending the wrong message. As I have been on campus a lot, I wanted to share from every experience of mine.

Thanks for all your help guys!
This is kinda late(almost a month)but I wanted to know about Peddie and Blair’s FA program. In addition, I was wondering if you guys could recommend some safety schools that are good(in the CT, MA, NJ, NY area).

This is my current list-
Choate Rosemary Hall
Kent School
Phillips Academy Andover
Peddie School
Blair(Possibly)
Hopkins(Probably not but its the only day option)

On a different note I was wondering if you guys would recommend I take 2 languages next year. I take Spanish right now and have been learning at a rapid pace(thanks to my parents) and in a few years(1-2) should be fluent. I don’t want schools to get the wrong idea about me and think that I already know how to speak Spanish. The other 2 languages offered at my local high school are Latin and French. Another option though is studying Portuguese independently.
Sorry for making this post so long.
