Should I regret not applying for any financial aid?

Alright, so I was long ago under the impression that my family wouldn't be eligible for any financial aid...

I applied to a lot of Ivy's like Dartmouth, Stanford, and even with their new financial aid policies, I still can't imagine myself being a recipient of aid.

But recently my friend's mom told me that I should have filed FAFSA, etc. just in case, and that the VAST majority of people get at least something.

Well, to be blunt (for a quick estimate), my family income is $200k+... was I correct in assuming that no need-based aid would be forthcoming.. anywhere?

Your mom's friend is spreading rumor, not fact. You are correct in your assumption that a family income of $200k would not result in need aid. The only "aid" you may qualify for would be loans.

ee... we make CONSIDERABLY less than $200K and we did not qualify for any financial aid.

Savings also play a big part in the calculation. I expect that your parents have been responsible and have saved for your education. Is a college education these days ridiculously expensive? YES! (We are looking at $50K a year- more than I MAKE) It is worth it? Absolutely.

Relax... study hard and make your parents proud. :D
