Should I rejoin tennis next year?

I'm a sophomore and I had started playing tennis for the high school team as a freshman and did pretty well, making the team as a junior varsity doubles starter #3 and making top 15 in the league with a sophomore girl. This year I decided to quit because I wanted to prepare for the SAT but in retrospect I sorta wish I didn't quit.

Well, reconsidering it now, I think I might rejoin tennis next year but I'm not sure. I'm pretty confident that I can make varsity next year as either a starter or an alternate since, this year, most of the varsity team is made up of seniors who will be leaving and only a few juniors who will become seniors next year will remain.

The thing is, next year I will have 4 AP classes (one of them being AP Chemistry) and Spanish IV which, at my school, is apparently designed to be similar to that of AP Spanish Language. Moreover, since it is junior year, I would have to prepare for the PSAT to qualify for the National Merit scholarship program. I love tennis, that's for sure, it's just that I'm worried about the time commitment - not with practice, though, because it only goes an hour after school but rather with the games, which can take up to 3 hours and really tire me out. Moreover, it will be really hot since I live in Socal and summer doesn't really end until late September and I will also have summer practice for the entire month of August. I didn't like how I got really tan and orange + sweaty + sticky from suntan lotion and the fact that I got carrot legs... But I love playing tennis. It's like bittersweet you know?

I'm planning on applying to extremely selective schools (HPSM & Columbia). Would quitting tennis for the rest of my high school career damage me as an applicant, too? I am also heavily involved with a musical instrument and in two clubs, and I am not sure how far this will go in terms of extracurriculars.

Should I or should I not?

hey, same exact situation. 4 ap classes, standardized tests, all that shizz and i absolutely love tennis, was jv for the past two years, definitely counting on varsity next year because i was 1st dubs this year. and i’m a sophomore. I’d say definitely keep playing tennis. i don’t know if the same applies to you, but coming back from practice and games actually helps a lot with homework and tests and everything because you’re more pressured for time, so you’re more efficient, and your brain is just clearer because of the exercise. I don’t know if that’s the same for you, but I realized that i get a whole lot more done during tennis season.

If you love it, do it. I think you’ll be able to manage. xD

Yeah. I think I’m going to be joining tennis next year again. Thanks.

I just really hope I get at least a 234 on the PSAT next year…ugh…damned standardized testing.
