Should I Report This?

In my literature class, we had a ten question pop quiz on Monday. It wasn't very hard, but the randomness of the questions and given after the weekend make it very hard. Most people scored in the 50-80 range, with only one or two getting a 90. The teacher said they will drop the quiz if the average of the class is below 80.

Someone that wasn't here that day just took it yesterday. They didn't know any of it, and we were having a free day while they were taking it. Everyone was on their phones, and this kid sat here staring at it for like 20 minutes. He muttered one of the questions out loud, someone told him the answer and he wrote it down. They walked over to this kid, and said its pretty easy, and have him about 7 of the answers.

Now I wouldn't normally care about this, but this is a quiz that I didn't do the best on (70 or 80) and this one kid's 100 could bring up the average of the quiz, affecting whether the teacher drops it or not.

So should I report this?

A 7/10 or 8/10 on a ten question quiz should be a very small portion of your grade in which case you shouldn’t worry too much.

I would if it could potentially affect you. My school has an honor code, and yeah a few people don’t follow it, but it’s pretty commonplace to report cheating. Apparently it’s also against the honor code to not report cheating that you witness, but I always cave because I don’t like telling on people, even though I should report it. I don’t feel too bad about it because someone else usually has the guts to report it. But again, these were cases thy wouldn’t really affect me. So because this could alter your grade, if you can report it in private without anyone knowing, I would.

I’m trying to look at it that way too, except it sort of is a decent portion. In the class last semester, we only had about 12 total grades, with 4 or 5 of those quizzes, 2 or 3 homework grades, and a few major essays.

Honestly, if he brings up the average, he’ll get reported by most of an angry class.
