Hi everyone! I'm an international student who's coming here for my college education. I got accepted by one college and I sent them my deposit and accepted their offer. However, I'm also on the waitlist of my top choice college. I'm still hoping my favorite college would accept me eventually. the college I accepted offer from recently asked me to request an I-20 transfer in order to issue the visa. I'm worrying what if my favorite college eventually accept me and would it be rude and awkward to tell my current college by saying that "oops, sorry i dont want to attend there even though you issue my visa for me?" should I request my visa or not? any advice?

Go ahead and get started on the paperwork for your visa. If you do get off the waitlist later, you can simply request that your SEVIS record be transferred to the new college. No big deal. Colleges know that a few of their students will accept waitlist offers elsewhere.

@b@r!um hi ! thx for your reply! so if i pay my SEVIS fee for the college I’ve already accepted offer from, would I have to pay taht SEVIS Fee again if I finally get off the waitlist and want to transfer the SEVIS record?

If you have your SEVIS record transferred, you only need to pay the SEVIS fee once. (On the other hand, if you don’t arrange a SEVIS transfer and the new college opens a second SEVIS account for you, then you have to pay the fee again.)

got it! thank you so much!
