I'm new on here -- I've only read threads never posted -- so I apologize if this is out of place.

I applied for four colleges early action for the Nov. 15th deadline. I applied ON Nov. 15th, because I didn't get a certain recommendation until that day. Anyway, some one told me to send the app, then the SAT scores. So I sent my apps (all on the common app, so everything was there), and then sent my SAT Scores right after... or so I thought.

When I check my history of sent scores on CB... it says I didn't send any. One of my school sent me a letter saying they haven't gotten mine yet. I know it takes 20-30 days for CB to send them... but I thought it would be ok.

So basically, I'm not even sure they got sent properly (though I called CB and they said it must have). If they did.... is this bad that I didnt' send them earlier???
Should I send them again, now, RUSH?!!?!

It said they were free… this might be because it said I sent my Dec. 4 Subject Test scores (which obviously are unavailable) w/ the normal SAT scores. So I’m thinking they were free because you always get 4 free one’s w/ each new SAT test you register for right (as long as you send them in a certain time frame).

Does that mean it only sent my Subject Tests… even though it said they sent all scores?

You are taking the SAT Subject Test this Saturday, the 4th? Is it possible nothing will be sent until those scores are available? Or did College Board tell you everything was sent but the SAT Subject Tests? If College Board is waiting for the scores of the SAT Subject Tests, while I am not an expert, my guess is that the only way to get the SAT Scores sent faster will be to pay for them.

If you are taking any form of the SAT this Saturday, none of your scores have been sent because they will be sent together when the December scores are available.

I did not know that they sent it with the December tests. Would USC still accept my scores if I sent them all with my December test (which I will be taking this Saturday). This is regarding the scholarship deadline which is today!?!?!

I know exactly what happened, because my daughter and I did the same thing! If you did not pay, and you are asking them to send scores you can see online, they have NOT sent them and will not send them until after you complete the December test.

The ONLY way that College Board sends score reports free is if it is for a test that you have not yet taken. Example: My daughter applied ED/EA to four schools where scores were due Nov 1. She took a test in January, a SAT II in October, and elected to repeat her SAT I test in November for the benefit of future applications and/or deferrals.

We got four free score reports as you did and requested that all tests be sent. We printed out a receipt that said they “would be sent.” Little did we know that they meant they would be sent…in late November. Therefore, all four EA/ED schools did not get any SAT scores until we discovered the error in late November. My daughter saw that they said they were missing her score reports on the application status, but thought (erroneously) that they were saying they were waiting for her November score, but had her other two. Beginner’s mistake.

You are above us in that you figured out the issue much quicker. Now you need to call your schools and ask them if they will accept a printout of your scores from College Board and explain the error.

Unfortunately, my DD is now in the position of wondering if she will get four deferrals because her score was so late. I would be curious what other posters think.

Sorry - I reread the thread, and realized that I was incorrect - we are all leading you toward the same conclusion. The tests were not sent because the form you filled out for free reports doesn’t take effect until the Dec scores are in. Therefore, you did the correct thing in arranging to send them immediately. Sorry - when I saw you made the same mistake we did I was so agitated that I read too quickly.

I’m a pretty smart mom, and my daughter is pretty savvy as well - I really think this needs to be explained MUCH more clearly, even if it is just a line like “ESTIMATED SCORE DELIVERY DATE = END OF DECEMBER” before you push the done button. It was really unclear from the receipt.

Thanks so much Shoot4moon for taking the time to run through your situation with me! I agree with your second post, I just wonder how we can effectively get this point across to College Board, as I have expressed my concerns about this issueto them on the phone and email. Anyway, good luck to you and your daughter through the rest of this college application process!

You don’t know how glad I am to have found this thread! Very similar situation…I thought it might just be our stumble but it seems to be widespread.

That’s interesting. I avoided that problem completely by not using the free score reports. It seems much more logical to just see your scores first and pay the 10 dollar charge(this way there is no confusion as to when scores will be sent). Of course, if money is a huge issue using the free reports is handy.

We would have happily paid $10 per score report - just didn’t understand the difference. I must say that I had nightmares about my daughter doing everything right, and my messing up my secretarial piece (e.g. this part). Guess my nightmare was true. I must admit that I am glad it is a widespread error - it makes me realize that perhaps the schools take into account that it is an easy error to make, and makes me hope that perhaps some of her EA schools will not defer her for an incomplete application, but instead will consider rechecking to see if the scores have come in. We were told by one school that if we printed out the online report of her scores, and faxed it to them, that would be sufficient to include in her app until the November score came through. We did that, but also paid for official reports.

The advisor that we are using through College Confidential to help her pick some additional safety schools indicated that she didn’t think it would make a difference. I don’t see how it couldn’t, since we didn’t discover the error until halfway through the application evaluation process, but she was an admissions counselor. I SURE hope she is right! The only possible saving graces that I see are (1) our last name begins with V, which might mean if they do them alphabetically they hadn’t gotten to her application yet. (2) She submitted her EA app on the last day before the deadline, so if they do them by receipt date they might not have gotten to her yet.

Oh well - no use crying over split milk - or over unclear directions. Just hope others see this thread and learn from our mistake. Perhaps a sticky posting on the SAT page would be appropriate!!!
