I took the October test session and scored a 2220 (680 cr, 800 math, 740 writing). This score is up from a 1920 (620 cr, 630 math, 670 writing) from my first session. I am not trying to show off my score or anything, because I am not that kind of person and other people get better scores. I just don't really know when one should retake the SAT, so I am asking your guys' opinions: Is a 2220 good enough for Ivies, Stanford, MIT or should I retake it to see if I can raise my CR score? If you have any advice on the matter, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

If you have a 2220, your time would be better spent increasing your ECs.

Sure a higher score would be helpful, but spending 20+ hours to raise your score only 20 or so points isn't a very good use of time.

It is a competitive score, and it's already your second try. Rarely do scores go up after that. You've fallen within the middle 50%, so it's time to focus on other things.

I think you should retake if you feel you can get a higher score. High scores definitely CAN go up even higher, even after a second sitting. But you're the best judge of whether the 2220 is just about as good as you are. I think 2220 might be a bit low for HYPMSC. You should try to get into the high 2200's if you can. Then again, you've already improved a great deal from your first score, so you may already have tested close to your 'peak'.

Talking about retakes...

I'm going for the nov. session as a walk-in candidate...

So i was going through the form...Do we have to pay collegeboard AGAIN for the colleges that we want to send our scores to? or should i leave that portion blank?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, everyone! Yeah, I agree with you when you say that my time would be better spent improving ECs. I don't think my total score would be higher if I retested, but I think my CR score could go up a good 50 points at least. The superscore could definitely go up I think. I did the October session by studying the math from my PR book the night before the test and not studying anything else so if I actually study for CR I think I could raise it. I think I will take everyone's advice and work on other things for my application. Thanks!

Yah I do not think that U have to retake it since the application deadline is right in front of our noses.

But if U are an international student, the low CR score could become a little obstacle, since the adcom specifically emphasizes the CRscore for international students; the score tells them the students' ability to comprehend English, they say.

But if U have good Ecs and recs and A.essay, U do not have to worry:)

a person with Decent SATscore and well-rounded personality is far better than a person with The high SAT score with no ECs and with annoyingly bragging personality:)
