I took the January SAT and got a mediocre score of 2240.
the breakdown was (cr/m/w) 690/800/750

I think this score is fine except that the CR seems a bit low and out of place. I was hoping and expecting 700+ but my scores usually fluctuate so 690 is understandable (plus I thought the January CR was more subjective than usual)

Im applying to good schools like Stanford, MIT, Cornell, Berkeley, etc, so Im not sure if my score suffices. Will my low CR hurt/lower my chances of being accepting (btw I'm going into engineering)?

Your score is not mediocre, but yes, the CR should be over 700 and for those schools, ideally over 750, but not a necessity especially if your application is otherwise strong. What have you gotten on your subject tests?

I’m not so sure a 690 CR will hurt your chances in engineering. If you had said you wanted to study the humanities, maybe I would raise my eyebrows. If this was your first attempt, take it again and just study CR.
