Should I retake 740 math 2?

I took Math 2 a few weeks ago and scores came out today, I got a 740… I’m really disappointed, I prepped so much and I was expecting 770+. I think I’m going to retake but I don’t want to put the time and effort in unless it’s absolutely necessary…

The schools I’m planning on applying to are Brown, Northwestern, Rice, Vassar, Cornell, UCB, etc. So top colleges but not HYP (I know those are way too much of a reach for me). I’m also not planning on applying to traditionally STEM schools like MIT or Caltech, and I won’t be premed or engineering.

If this helps give anyone a better idea, my UW GPA is around a 3.97, my rank is 2/53, and my SAT score was a 2220 but I’m retaking it in January for hopefully a 2300.

Would retaking math 2 be worth it at this point? Will my score hurt my chances of getting into those schools (Brown has been my dream school for years)?

I would retake anything below 750 for Math 2 but it won’t make or break your application.

i think im going to end up retaking…

Retaking can’t hurt you, but don’t put the subject test above the SAT or, more importantly, your schoolwork. For what it’s worth, I found Dr. Chung’s really helpful when I was studying; it raised my score 50 points in a week (although I don’t recommend my method of waiting until a week before the test to study…). Good luck!

@studeam is spot on. SAT2’s should always be a lower priority than schoolwork and SAT1s!
