Should I retake a 740 SAT II?

I have a dilemma. I did much worse on my SAT II United States history test than I imagined, and I don't know whether I should retake it. I got a 740 and I want to move on and study for Math Level 2, Spanish W/Listening, and another SAT II, but I don't know if I could take that "other" SAT II this Fall or retake US History since you are only allowed to take three SAT II's at a time. I currently have the following scores:

Math Level 2: 780
US: 740
Spanish w/listening: pending this fall
Literature: pending because I don't know whether I should retake the US History again :(

I am applying to NYU ED next year if it matters.

I think 740 is good enough for NYU. The percentile for SAT II US for a 740 is higher than most other 740s.

Also I think NYU only requires 2 SAT IIs (correct me if I am wrong)…and 3 at max.
So if you do well on Spanish or Lit, you for sure dont need to retake SAT II US.

Even now, my advice would be to not retake.

I wouldn’t retake it. I’m not sure the SAT II protocols, but if you retook it would you have to submit both scores, would you have to automatically cancel the first score, or would you only submit the higher score.

Think about it: by next fall, you’ll probably have forgotten half the stuff you learned in US History this year. So do you really think you’d do better without a very large time investment?

And a 740 is good enough for pretty much any school

I’d only retake for NYU if your GPA and other standardized test scores don’t measure up to NYU standards.

I’m with HiPeople - 740 is definitely good enough for NYU.

No need to retake.

Why are you retaking a 780 in the Math2?

Why do you want to take 4 when the most any school asks for is 3?

I never knew NYU only maxed out at 3, I just always assumed the more the better.

Also, my GPA is a 3.52 at the moment overall ( Fresh, Soph, Junior) and my ACT is 32. ( Retaking two more times until 34.)

Also, I am retaking the mathematics SAT II Level 2 because I have an intense ( okay I know geeky) passion for mathematics, and I honestly think the math test, even level 2 is dirt easy and I would honestly have fun retaking the Math SAT II lol. I do go to many conferences at Courant. ( #1 applied mathematics.)

nobody “maxes out”…there is required and recommended and recommended becomes the required if it is really competitive or one wants to really cover all their bases…

i think what they meant was that why waste time taking extra SAT IIs when that time can be used somewhere else…

Yeah forget US History, I am going to concentrate on other things this summer.

Thank you guys for the help!
