Should I retake a 790 Physics??

i got a 790 on june physics sat and i want to know if i should retake or not. it kinda sucked because on all my practice tests (kaplan, PR, barrons) i got an 800, but on this test i just blew it and got a 790.
I know i'm capable of an 800 and it sucks even more because I know that I misread the very first question on the test, which means if I had read it correctly, i would have had an 800.
retake in november?? yes or no??

should i retake a 2399 SAT?

no. dear god no. in the time you could retake the sat you could, i don't know, plant a tree or read a book or do something worthwhile with your time (i suggest watching grass grow. it will be equally as useful as gaining those 10 sat ii points back.)

lol@tomatoking

lol ya i know the situation may be kind of funny but im still serious about this

i dont think you should...am i right in saying that its more a matter of personal satisfaction? 790 is a really good score...be proud of it!

Don't do it. Or you'll be like that kid at my school who took physics THREE TIMES cuz of 790 and twice in math ii cuz of 790 (finally got his 800's this time lol)

you don't want to be him. :P

Definitely. REAL men get 791's in physics. SPARTA!!!

don't do it, it looks stupid in the eyes of admission officers. They'd rather see you making better use of your time than wasting an hour retaking a test for 10 pts. Plus, what if you get another 790 or 780...don't take the risk

be environmental and don't take a subject test!

yeah seriously subject test booklets waste way too much paper...

If 790 is in the same percentile as 800, you probably shouldn't even think of taking it again.

theres no doubt you know a ****load about physics. no college is going to mark you down for not getting a perfect score. it is the same in their eyes. furthermore, colleges dont publish their average sat II scores, so they dont have to worry so much about getting superhigh scores.

It surprises me that there are still people asking this on CC. Just shows how well we can use the search function and/or apply common sense.

What are these 800-desiring perfectionists going to do when they get to college and realize that not everyone gets perfect 100's on midterms and finals? Retakes don't seem to be an option there, n'est-ce pas?

briguy, i guess you're right and it is more of a matter of personal satisfaction. so colleges dont care if its a 790 or an 800??

May I ask why you're willing to waste your parents' or your hard-earned money just so you can get 10 points worth of "personal satisfaction"? It's a well-known fact that 790 and 800 are virtually equal in an admission officer's eyes, so don't worry about retaking.

Vivi is right, admissions officers don't give a damn about 10 points, or even 40 points. At an info session, the Caltech admissions director told us that they pay more attention to the score range (the one they have on the score reports) than the score itself. On MIT's website, they go so far as to say that 700=800 as far as they're concerned with SATs.

"On MIT's website, they go so far as to say that 700=800 as far as they're concerned with SATs."

For math? I don't believe that for one second.

I don't believe that either...
thanks for all the advice guys/girls
im pretty sure i wont retake now
but just curious, are there any PROS to retaking it with a 790??
and would it truly look bad in an admissions officer's eyes if he/she saw a retake 790 to an 800?

math 700 definitely does not equal to math 800. especially at MIT
