Should I retake a class at my new school that I did poorly in my previous one?

Hi all! Happy holidays
I’m a transfer student (sophomore) at UConn right now. Unfortunately, I got a D- in Calc I at my previous school (I know, yikes). Since I’m planning on applying to grad school, I’m signed up to take Calc I at UConn next semester and hope to do better. I know it doesn’t erase my grade from before, but I thought that it would show grad schools that I care and that I’m willing to try it again and get better marks.
But is it worth it?
My major is cognitive science and I don’t need Calc I for that or my gen eds. I was originally computer science which is why I took it in the first place. I’m not a math person at all so I’m wondering if it’s worth the risk of getting a mediocre grade.

Thank you!

What would you study in grad school? Talk that over with your advisor. You might need a better background in Calc for the grad program you are hoping to attend even if it isn’t required for your major.
