Should I retake ACT?

I am a junior and I just got my scores back from the September ACT. This was my first sitting.

English: 34
Math: 35
Reading: 32
Science: 36

Composite: 34

I am wondering if it is worth retaking the act to raise my Reading score. If I had just gotten one more point, my composite would have been a 35. What do you guys think?

I would go for it. I just retook it and got a 35 up from a 34. Won’t hurt to try but it won’t hurt to not try. Definitely up to you whether you want to raise your reading score. Plus you’re a junior so you have plenty of time. Best of luck testing!

Thanks for the reply, and congrats on the 35

Bump

Retake if you have time and money

@viphan‌ thanks for the reply, I do have the time and money, i will consider this

Also try the SAT. It’s important to try both to see which you like it better.

@viphan‌ if i got a worse score on the SAT compared to the ACT, wouldn’t it look bad to schools that require you to send all of your scores?

It’s either-or. If you take both SAT and ACT, you can send only one of your choosing. They’re not going to force you to send ACT when in fact you did much better on the SAT. Also, they have no way of finding out if you took both tests.

The caveat is that some elite schools DO require SAT II subject tests. If you took SAT I and miserably failed, however, and the school doesn’t happen to be a score-choice participant, then they will see ALL your scores including the ACT, SAT I and SAT II.

@viphan‌ i see. I took the Math II subject test knowing that some schools require SAT II even if you take ACT, so I will be taking at least one more subject test this coming spring anyway. I think I might as well take the SAT I as well. I just don’t want to memorize all that vocab…
