I took AP World in my freshman year (I am now an incoming junior). I studied often, did well in the class, and I felt confident for a 5. Until after the test, when I had two minutes left in my essays, I realized I had misread my three essay prompts (nervous wreck?). Now, I know I could have acquired a 5, because as I analyzed the situation, just with the MC, I acquired a 3.

My question is, should I retake the exam next year? I'm not sure if I'd like to study all over again, but I'm pretty sure I remember most of the details, and trends. Comments, please?

If you really want to, do it. But a lot of colleges don’t give credit for World in any capacity, so getting a 5 wouldn’t make much difference in course placement or credit. But if this is more of an ego thing and you think you can do it and you want to pay the money for the test, go for it.

Not necessarily, I just thought colleges gave a credit for Humanities if you passed this with a 4 or 5, but then again, wouldn’t it also look better reporting a 5 instead of a 3?

I don’t think it’s that big a deal to try and improve; I don’t know any schools off of the top of my head that give credit for World either, and if your other AP scores are higher and show improvement, I don’t think it will hurt you at all.

Plus, you will forget a lot of the information you learned over the two years, even if you keep studying it. I don’t think it’s impossible to get that 5, but it’s probably going to be tough, especially if you’re doing that on top of other APs. There’s also paying for the same exam again, and that’s no fun.

But it’s really your decision, so weigh the costs and benefits for yourself before you choose.
