Should I retake my ACT?

I took one in April with these results:
Composite - 35
English - 36
Math - 34
Reading - 32
Science - 36
Essay - 8
Combined English/Writing - 32

I have registered to take the September ACT but could still cancel.

My concern is that my essay is not high enough.
Does it look bad if I take it again and don't score quite as well the second time?

Additionally, when colleges look at your subject scores, do they mainly look at Math/Reading or Math/English? If it is the latter, would the English score that they consider be the English alone or the combined English/Writing?

Thank you so much!

Usually they look at the English score and not the combined one. I don’t think your essay score would hurt your application that much. It’s not worth the extra time to retake with that score.

yeah ptontiger is right. that is a really good score and you dont need to retake it

I agree ^^ if you were to get rejected from a high caliber school, it would definitely not be because of your writing. Schools predominantly look at math and english scores (since they typically only release data about those two sections).

Some posters like to brag ;)

Its a fine score

As everyone else said, don’t waste your time preparing for the ACT and retaking it. Colleges won’t focus too much on your writing score so it won’t hurt you.

Nice job on the ACT! That is an awesome score… Wish I had that score!

awesome job!! I wouldn’t waste my time anymore thinking about ACT

no wayyyyy!!! im here trying for a 28! you’re on your way! dont waste time!
