Should I Retake My ACT?

I just got my ACT back, and I got a 32. I by no means think this is a bad score, I’m proud of myself because this is the first time I took any admissions test. I kind of took it because I didn’t know if I should took the ACT or SAT too.

My composite is English (35), Math (30), Science (25), Reading (36) and Writing (12). As you can see, I really exceled in literary subjects and floundered a bit in STEM.

I’m interested in Brown and Barnard, which is why I’m a little scared (my other schools, like UVA, it’s a sound score). It’s towards the 25% range for Brown, but I want to be an English major. I like science and math just fine, but I love reading and writing. I have writing awards, have been published, go to writing camp, etc. My spike is definitely in that area.

I’m taking the SAT tomorrow, so I definitely won’t retake it if I get a good score on that (esp bc it doesn’t have a science section)–but if I don’t, should I retake the ACT? I feel like it’s a good score overall, but I’m just a little worried about the results w/ STEM, considering it barely hits my target range.

If time and money are not issues. It definitely won’t hurt to take it again for a higher score. I’d say if you know you could do better than retake it, rather than regret not taking it. But 32 is awesome! Congrats and Good Luck!

I agree with @musicmeister22. If you have the time and are dedicated to studying, then taking it again can’t hurt. You already have a great score, and you could possibly improve your stem scores further (even though they aren’t bad).

I also agree. A 32 isn’t bad, but if you think you can do better, definitely go for it.
