I took both the SAT and ACT this june and these were my scores:

SAT
Writing - 580
Math - 770
Reading - 630

ACT
Composite - 32
English - 35
Math - 34
Reading - 27 (I guessed on the last 10...argh)
Science - 32 (guess on last 5)

SAT Subject
Math Level II - 690
US History - 780
Biology Eco - 770

AP US and Bio should be either 4s or 5s, I also have a 3.97 unweighted GPA. So the question is, if I want to go to a top school, do I need to retake the SAT or ACT? Or should I just send the ACT and ignore my crappy SAT scores?

1st post! ;)

I would retake the SAT to try to improve writing and reading. Other than that, you have solid scores.

What if I don't send my SAT scores and only send the ACT? I'm trying to get out of retaking, I'm lazy haha

Yes, you can do that, but then your SAT II scores won't be sent either. If you want to send your SAT II scores, your SAT I score will be sent with them.

So you cannot send ACT and SAT II ---and NOT have the SAT I be sent???

Oregon: when you send SAT II everything goes. (Although that's changing after the class of '09.)

OP: I'd take the ACT again. Most do better on the 2nd sitting, and I think you are a great candidate for that because ACT is all about time management. Worst case scenario? You blew the test fee and didn't do better. Don't report that score (and for safety's sake, make sure your HS doesn't put all the scores on your transcript).

Should I retake the SAT? I took it in June and my scores were:

Reading - 800
Math - 660
Writing - 660

It's a weird situation...any thoughts?

And when you send the SAT I is it possible to NOT have the SAT II go? Some schools do not require SAT II and if you take them and do not want them sent, do you have a choice??

Oregon: No you don't have any choice, the college board sends all the scores you have ever gotten, SAT and SAT Subjects, old and new.

Bear: Those are good scores, but it all depends on what college you want to go to, check College Board's site to see if it's good enough.

Thanks socalgal! Correct me if I'm wrong...
*If I send a low SAT score and a high ACT score to college, they will only consider the high one? *

Yes, the school looks at the highest scores you send. But if your ACT is higher than your SAT's why send the SAT's at all? I am asking the same type of question because S is taking the ACT's over and that score may very well be higher than his SAT I. So-if you send the ACT, schools do not need any SAT II?

Most of the ivies require SAT II subject tests in addition to the ACT, you have to check with the individual schools site or look it up at college board's website.

I have to send my SAT I scores because it goes on the same report as the subject tests.
