I messed up my SATs and i only have one chance to improve in december before UC applications and USC apps close.
SAT’s i got
Math 780
CR 650
Writing 560 Essay 8 MC 55
Total-1990

SAT II’s
Math IIc 730
Physics 630

Which should i retake that will better my chances?

One more question. I retook the SAT II’s in math and physics and i don’t think my scores improved. Should i cancel them?

How many times can you retake an SAT II ?

If you have reason to think you can improve both your CR and Writing scores, then you should probably retake the SAT I. USC only requires the SAT I (SAT IIs are optional but recommended) so three strong SAT I scores are important there. For the UC applications, an improvement in two of the five necessary scores would also help you more than just bringing up Physics. I feel like your Math IIc score is just fine and backed up by that very high Math score.

I wouldn't cancel the scores just because you don't think you improved. I'd only cancel if you were sure you went down dramatically.

I've never heard of anyone taking an SAT II more than twice but I don't think there is any rule against it.

I actually know for sure that i didn't improve "Puzzled88" So should i just cancel. I remember hearing that you can only take the SAT II's twice before they start averaging or something like that. I don't really know the facts. Anyone else have a second opinion?

sf - Why don't you call one or two of the colleges you are interested in and ask them the question. You can be anonymous. A definitive answer from the college is better than any opinion from one of us.

Asian parents spread rumors about how colleges average SAT scores after you take the SAT I over 3 times and the SAT II over 2 times. I don't think that's true. Like MakingItRain said, just don't take them too many times.

I'd say go for SAT I.

@guitars101 - I asked my counselor today and he said the deadline's over and there's not standby registration :(

Which should i retake that will better my chances?

SAT I, for sure! But study hard! Be SURE you can improve your scores, or they'll think: "this guy had his chance to improve, but he didn't. =p"

One more question. I retook the SAT II's in math and physics and i don't think my scores improved. Should i cancel them?

If you are sure your scores didn't improve, cancel. Same thing: if they see that you had your chance to improve them but didn't, they'll think you don't really care about your scores, don't like to study hard, something like that.

How many times can you retake an SAT II ?
Yeah, no limit. But it's better to not overtake. Two or three times are ok.

I don't know the Dec. test dates. Is there any way you could take both SAT I and ACT in December? Since your SAT IIs seem better to me, maybe the ACT would be a better test for you. My son is a math and science guy, so having half of the test math and science, as opposed to a third, made him happier.

Again, it's too late to register for ACT and there's no standby registration, meaning that you can't sign up for the test last minute. In Dec. the ACT test is one week after the SAT though.
