Hi everyone,
I’m a current high school junior, and I was trying to decide whether or not it was worth it for me to retake the SAT. I took it in October and got a 2160. (I don’t know how I got that low as I was always getting much higher during practice tests). I took it in January again and got 2290 (W: 760, CR: 790, Math: 740). I was pretty bummed that I got less than an 800 in math, but since I got a 770 in Math in October my super score would be a 2320. Is this enough for top level colleges? I also will need a certain score to become a National Merit Scholar, so is this score good enough for that?
I think I can get better in Math, but I don’t know about the other subjects. Is it worth it to retake it, and will retaking it give me any advantage? Should I just try ACT and see how that goes?
Thanks!
Congrats! Your superscore is great and it is good enough for top tier schools & to qualify for National Merit. You are welcome to try the ACT, but IMO it would be a waste of time studying for it.
Yeah that is a pretty ridiculous score already so I would definitely not take the SAT again. You really don’t need the ACT, although for a handful of colleges it would allow you to just submit the ACT and not the Subject Tests. But based on your SAT scores I am sure that you would kill it on the Subject Tests too and in the end you will probably have to take them if you are targeting multiple top schools, so I would probably stop with the SAT and ACT and focus on getting the Subject Tests out of the way (I would definitely do June and maybe May if you wanted to have 2 opportunities this year).
Thank you @reasonsat and @plsnoticeme for your advice!
