Should I retake SATs?

I got a 2050
710 critical reading
700 math
640 writing (11 essay)
I'm applying EA

yes and you do need suject scores too.

I took those yesterday (USH and math 2). How much do you think I need to raise my SATs?

I think you should retake and try to get a 700+ in each section, at least a 2200+ and you’ll be in good shape  best of luck

See page 9 from Yale’s 2009-2010 Common Data Set: http://www.yale.edu/oir/cds.pdf

You need to retake the test. Your score of 640 in writing is far below Yale’s 25th percentile score of 700. You can also compare other years as a double-check by going to: [Common Data Set](http://www.yale.edu/oir/ComDatset.html)

Some analysis of CC SCEA application results, which probably appear more competitive than the general pool:

Admission results of reporters posting test scores by SAT/ACT score bracket
2390-2400 (22 scores) Admitted: 36%, Deferred: 59%, Denied: 5%
……….(note: ACT 36 = SAT 2390 by latest concordance table)
2350-2380 (18 scores) Admitted: 55%, Deferred: 33%, Denied: 11%
2300-2340 (41 scores) Admitted: 41%, Deferred: 51%, Denied: 7%
2250-2290 (26 scores) Admitted: 19%, Deferred: 61%, Denied: 19%
2200-2240 (16 scores) Admitted: 6%, Deferred: 75%, Denied: 19%
2100-2190 (18 scores) Admitted: 17%, Deferred: 39%, Denied: 44%
Below 2100 (15 scores) Admitted: 20%, Deferred: 40%, Denied: 40%

My subject tests came in:
700 math 2 (omitted about 9 because I ran out of time :frowning: )
710 USH

Ugh… Things just keep getting worse

None of your scores are horrible, and don’t be overly swayed by the statistics posted, since that is a VERY self-selecting group.

Pretty much if you have the spare time, take the SATs again, if not, it won’t be the sole reason for a rejection.

Yeah, I would retake … you want to get above a 2100. I know plenty of people who have gotten in with scores in the 2100-2200 range (myself included) but very few that have gotten in with scores below that.

If you got an 11 essay you should be able to do much better on the writing. Ideally none of your sections should be below 700. I had an extremely low math score (around the range of your writing score) but made up for it with 800s on the other two sections.

If you have your mind set on attending Yale or a school of similar caliber, take the SAT again after much practice this summer.

How important are APs? First year of taking them…
US history 5
AP lit 3 :(

Or you can take ACT with writing since it covers both SAT and subject tests for Yale and it is much sooner than the next SAT.

^i’m planning on doing that so hopefully I do well and don’t have to worry about SAT! Thank you!
