Should I retake the ACT w/ writing?

I took the ACT once, and got a 29 with a 36 on the writing portion of the ACT.

I am retaking the ACT to significantly boost my score, because I hadn’t studied at all the last time. Should I take the writing portion again?

I already got a 36 before on the essay, and wouldn’t want to get a lower score. But I also wouldn’t want colleges to see my 29 as well. Advice?

You don’t have any way of submitting your 36 without submitting your 29. Skipping the essay may just create more problems. What if you get a 34 Composite in September and don’t take writing? If a college requires writing and doesn’t superscore across writing and non-writing test dates, then the new score would be useless. If the college does superscore across writing and non-writing test dates, chances are your 36 writing is going to be your top score. BTW, most colleges haven’t decided on this policy.

Do you realize 29 is the 97th percentile? That is pretty strong.

@nw2this A 29 composite is the 93rd percentile

29 is 97th %-tile for writing, not composite. I misunderstood OP’s issue, since it is the opposite of what everyone else is experiencing.
