All of the schools I am planning to apply to require the ACT+Writing and/or SAT I/II. I have taken the ACT+Writing once, and I got a score of 11 on the writing test. I don't think I will improve and get a 12, so is it necessary to take the writing portion again? Will the colleges look at the writing score from one test and the other scores from another test, or do they only look at each test separately from the rest? The writing portion doesn't affect the composite score, so it wouldn't cause a problem with my composite score or anything.

Most schools do not superscore the ACT. What were your two scores?

Situation:

College requires ACT w/writing.

If I submit an ACT w/writing to meet that requirement and then also submit an ACT w/o writing, will the college consider the score of the ACT w/o writing?

Answer: for most colleges this is a complete unknown as they don’t say what they will do, one way or the other. Moreover, it has nothing to do with whether the college superscores ACT’s. It is simply a question as to whether they will just ignore an ACT w/o writing (even if they do superscore). Only way to get the answer is to contact the college. One I know of, UIUC, will consider the ACT w/o writing as long as you submit an ACT w/writing (and UIUC does not superscore – if the one without writing has a higher composite score, it will use that to determine admission). I have been told Yale will not do so but that is second-hand information and thus not confirmed.

Thank you for the information! I have to sign up soon, and Yale is one of my top choices so that is very relevant information to me! Thanks again
