Should I retake the ACT

I took it twice already. My second score (the highest one) was a composite of 32 with 33, 31, 33, 31. I didn't study for it since I was focusing on finals and AP testing at the time. I want to try for a 34, but I don't know if I can score that high if I take the test again. Should I bother?

Bump

Anyone got advice? If I study this time around (which I will be doing if I take it again), can I actually expect to get from a 32 to a 34 or will I probably max out at 32 or 33? If it matters, my first score was a 31 (31, 28, 31, 32).

Good job on getting in the 30s.

Buy a prep book, preferably one from the actual ACT company. Those practice tests will be closest in difficulty to the real thing. Do as many tests as you can. Ask your teachers at school if they have some of those books; they probably do.

Study hard and be confident. Those are the best things to improve your score.

Actually the red book does not simulate the real tests. They are from years ago. For example, the test #4 in the red book is from 12/2009 if I’m not mistaken, and all of the other tests are before that.

Yes, the red book is published by the ACT but you will be disappointed after you get your true score. I would recommend harder books like Barron’s to go along with the red book. Also utilize released exams.

So it is worth it? I want that 34 so I can get free housing at UAH (to which I already applied). I just don’t know if I already maxed out, even if I didn’t study. I don’t want to waste money trying to get a better score if I won’t be able to get it. Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

As cliche as it may sound, if you try hard enough, it’s going to be easy. You seem like you really don’t want to do it. I think you should focus more on other things like maintaining your GPA and ECs.

It’s definitely possible if you have the time and commitment. I got a 33 my first time with just taking two practice tests . My second time I prepped a a lot and had a “really bad day” and got a 33 (Ordered a copy of my test and made VERY stupid mistakes). So I took it one last time, prepped a TON with barrons and was able to pull off a 35.
