Should I retake the ACT?

Hello everybody! Well, I took the ACT twice and these were my scores:

Composite: 32
English: 32
Math: 29
Reading: 35
Science: 31

Composite: 31
English: 32
Math: 33
Reading: 31
Science: 28

Obviously I was pretty happy with these scores. I have never studied for the ACT though, so I was considering trying to study and see if I can improve. Do all those ACT prep books actually help? Or would it be more worth my time to focus on college applications (I'm going to be a senior next year)

Right now I'm thinking retaking the test probably won't be worth it, but any opinions or tips (especially for science) would be greatly appreciated!

The books can only bring your score so high. But I’d say take it one more after a bit of studying. Your score might raise a point of 2, or even stay the same. I have a 32 and I don’t find the books to give to many more “tips” then you probably already know. Like taking some more practice tests could help though.

we need more info to diagnose this situation.

like what college applying to, good enough ECs, lots of APs, etc…

My first choice by far is the US Coast Guard Academy. I’m also considering University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for Engineering (in-state). I don’t know what other places to apply to though…

My EC’s are… somewhat lacking.
-club soccer 2 years
-student council 1 year
-backstage for school play 1 year
-hospital volunteer (~40 hours)
& I plan to add about 3 more activities (2 involving leadership) in August

-AP Euro (3)
-APUSH (4)
Next Year- AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP Art History

GPA- 3.83 UW, 4.55W
Top 5% of class

Thanks for the advice cjgone. It’s nice to hear some opinions from people other than my parents. haha

Your ACT is already significantly higher than both of those schools’ averages.

dont retake, there are more important things to do for app
