Sorry if this is asked a thousand times, but should I retake the SAT? I've taken it twice already; first time I got a 2220 (I think it was 720 CR/760 Math/740 Writing) and the last time I got a 2280 (740/780/760). I'm looking to apply to selective schools (like Yale, Penn, Duke, etc.) and am confident that I can raise my reading and possibly my writing scores, but I'm not sure whether taking the SAT a third time would detract from my application rather than helping it even if I raise my score. Any advice?

No, don’t retake

how are you studying? @@

Nah, I wouldn’t retake. Your scores seem consistent across the board. Theres just a lot that could go wrong with so little margin for error. Focus on other parts of your application

Anyone else have input?

Yes. Do not retake it. Your scores are within the limits for the schools in question. Now you need to set yourself apart. Higher test scores are not the way to do it. Invent something. Cure hunger. Broker Peace in the Middle East…OK, those may be a bit far-fetched, but one you ‘qualify’ via test scores, the ECs and your essays will have a lot more to do with your admissions than a few more points on the tests. If it was just about scores, 100% of Ivy admits would have 2300+ or 35+

If you are really confident that you can raise your scores by 50+ points then I think the benefits will more than outweigh any issues associated with taking the test 3 times. If you’re really confident I say go for it.

If you can’t get in with 2280, you probably won’t get in with 2330 either.
