Should I retake the SAT (big discrepancy between CR + M and W)?

I took the February makeup test for the SAT. I received a 2240 (720 M, 730 CR, 790 W). Although I’m satisfied with the overall score, I am upset about my 1,450 CR + M. Are these scores, on average, too low for the Ivies? Should I try again in the fall?

Nope.

It really is up to you. I retook a test on which I received the same score and improved 100 points. Your score will not prevent you from getting into any schools. I would say if you’ve taken it only once to do it again just in case you do better. Definitely take practice tests for the new SAT, and make your own decision based on how well you do. Keep in mind that you will not be able to superscore across the two types of SAT and the fall SAT will likely not return your scores in time for early decision/early action deadlines. Do you think you could take the June one instead?

@blossom27 I checked the Harvard website and it stated that the October/November tests are acceptable for the early action deadline.

Great! Never mind then. I’m also a junior and schools I was looking at (UNC for example) have deadlines prior to that. Do whatever’s best for you

If it makes you feel better, I had a 1490 (690CR and 800M) and my writing was also 750 (2240 also lol) and I fared well enough in College Admissions this year  Your scores average out a lot better, you’ll be fine. Retakes are your own call.

No. I got the same 2240 as you, and that is pretty much good for everywhere (except MIT and Caltech). I would not retake the new one and risk getting something lower.
