Should I retake the SAT I?

Hello all,

I am an international student [from Brazil] who is currently applying for MIT.

Despite my relatively good academics, I am afraid that my SAT I scores can keep me out of MIT.

Unfortunately, I don't have many ECs to rely upon, so my academics are, in fact, my strongest instrument toward admission.

All of my ECs are:

● Private pilot student, able to fly single-engine airplanes (15 logged flight hours);

● ‘Virtual airline’ (Redirecionando...) manager; in charge of organizing seminars about aviation and teaching flying concepts (since 2007);

● Teacher (instructor) of an aviation based online course offered worldwide (known as IVAO). In charge of teaching mechanics, aerodynamics, meteorology, etc. (2008-2010).

● Graphic designing (since 2007);

● Video production; producer of advertising videos (since 2008);

● R/C planes flying and building;

● Cycling; participate on local events;

● Music student (violin).

My SAT Subject scores are ok; I got 800 on Physics and 800 on Math 2 in a single try.

Notwithstanding, my SAT I scores are very poor: Critical Reading 590, Math 780, Writing 610.

I have also taken the TOEFL iBT and scored 105.

My point is: should I retake the SAT I in order to improve my admission chances? Would the TOEFL score suffice or not?

Thank you for your attention so far.

Sincerely,
Sandro Rodrigues

Hey,

I’m in the same boat as you are! Its interestingly weird that our TOEFL and SATI/II scores match so same. With a difference althought, I’m taking place in MUN conferences instead of music and flight.

You have the option to just submit TOEFL+SATII instead of SATI+SATII so academicly you wouldn’t have a problem in my opinion but as Chris has stated many times in chances threads, no one can give you an accurate yes or no.

If money is no problem and you got time, try SATI again but this time go thru some books like “1000 Hot Words” etc… The biggiest problem in SAT’s Critical Reading and Writing parts is vocablary for me. Most of those words are never used in daily life and even after I translate the word into my language, I need another dictionary to understand its meaning in my own language!

Note: Your ECs are strong enough to rely upon, unless you are ■■■■■■■■ lol

They say on their website that they accept either SAT1 or TOEFL for internationals.

No Offense Sandro .But I believe in working in silence…
Good luck anyways.

w00 planes! Have you solo’d?

@PiperXP

Not really, stuck in the 15 flight hours. Can’t solo in my country before turning 18 =/
